AI-powered automotive marketplace transforms car buying

Auto Mart has relaunched its platform as South Africa’s first AI-powered automotive marketplace, introducing advanced natural language search that makes buying and selling vehicles simpler, faster, and more intuitive.

After more than two decades in the industry, Auto Mart now offers the widest selection of categories in the country, from cars and bikes to bakkies, spares, and accessories. Its relaunch marks not just a design overhaul but a shift in how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming user experiences in the automotive space.

Smarter searches with conversational AI

The most significant upgrade lies in the integration of conversational AI. Instead of endless scrolling or applying rigid filters, users can now type queries in plain language.

“The way people search has changed,” explains Felix Erken, CEO of Junk Mail Marketplaces, Auto Mart’s parent company. “Users want simplicity, speed, and relevance, and they want it in plain language. Auto Mart’s new AI functionality was designed to deliver exactly that.”

This means that someone can search “fuel-efficient hatchback with Bluetooth” or “bakkie for family road trips” and receive accurate results. The AI recognises intent, adapts to South African terminology, and learns from user behaviour to continually refine search accuracy.

Unlocking access to spares and accessories

Another major development is the improved access to automotive spares and accessories. Previously, users often struggled with technical search terms. Now, informal traders, mechanics, and drivers can simply describe parts in everyday language and still find what they need.

“By using the data already at hand, we’ve built a process that is intuitive and game-changing for the automotive space,” says Erken.

Future-ready platform for South Africa

Behind the sleek interface, Auto Mart’s platform has been rebuilt from the ground up. Enhanced features include wish lists, predictive search, stored histories, and improved dealer interaction.

“We didn’t just redesign the front end,” Erken notes. “Every system behind the scenes has been redeveloped to make this platform scalable, future-ready, and more intuitive for everyday users.”

This AI-powered model will eventually expand across other Junk Mail Group platforms, bringing a new standard to South African online marketplaces.

Driving the future of car buying

AI is already part of daily life, from WhatsApp suggestions to Netflix recommendations. Auto Mart’s relaunch brings this technology to South Africa’s automotive market, bridging everyday language with powerful search capabilities.

By embracing AI, Auto Mart has built not just a website but a foundation for the future of automotive e-commerce in South Africa.
